A professional association runs on three things: new members joining, a directory people actually use, and renewals that arrive on time. Pory gives applicants a way to join online, publishes the member directory, and reminds members before their renewal is due.

How Pory sets it up
Pory gives every member and membership secretary a sign-in of their own. Each member sees only their own members. It covers members & directory. Members, memberships, documents, CE log, events, from the guild, applications and who to contact live in Pory's own database, so there's no spreadsheet to keep in sync.
What it does
New translators join by creating their own member account
Joining used to mean a PDF form, a scanned certificate and a secretary retyping both into the register. In Pory a translator creates their own account from the guild's page and fills in their application: language pair, specialty and qualifications. The secretary decides from one list, and the new member's directory entry is already written.

Law firms and hospitals used to call the office asking for a German legal translator, and the secretary searched a spreadsheet while they waited. In Pory the member directory is a public page of names, faces and language pairs that anyone can browse. The phone stops ringing for questions a page can answer.

Translators are reminded to renew before they drop off the register
Renewal notices went out in one batch each fall, so half the register was reminded too early and the rest too late. In Pory each membership carries its own renewal date, and the member gets a reminder in the portal and by email before it arrives. Fewer lapses turn out to be simple forgetting.
